drinkingmamaPersonality: Junko plays an interesting role both in her canon and in her daughter's life and character development. The first time she appears on screen is when she's resisting a small, noisy child's (her young son) attempts at waking her up - when a resolute Madoka pulls the curtains open to get her out the hard way. She blearily brushes her teeth, half-awake, shambles through her morning routine, and... comes out of it bright, cheery, and impeccably groomed.
Junko Kaname is an incredibly motivated woman. Despite raising two children, and being a woman in her 30's in Japan, she's a successful businesswoman (what her business is, we only have vague clues, but it's something to do with money anyways). A firm believer in taking action, when Madoka asks what she'd do with a wish for anything, her response is that she'd use it to get a coworker to retire so she could jump in. She advises Madoka to take action for her friends when needed, and criticizes boys who confess their feelings any way other than face-to-face.
She isn't all fire and aggression, though; while she's a forward woman who, perhaps, comes home a bit too drunk a bit too often, she's also kind and understanding. Junko often takes the time to sit and talk with her daughter and eat meals with her family in spite of her busy schedule, and provides the absolute best advice she can - all while trusting Madoka to do the right thing. That trust comes to a head when Madoka is adamant about leaving in the middle of a disaster, after suspicious behavior and the death of her best friend, and Junko allows her to go. Her understanding comes out strongly when she sits with Homura in the final timeline, a stranger to her there, and speaks with her kindly and frankly.
